Corinne Gibbons is a singer, songwriter and guitarist. With classic songwriting skills, smooth sultry vocals and a genuine passion for people, Corinne sings of love, loss and the planet we live in.
With a voice compared to music legends like Colbie Caillat, Eva Cassidy and even as the female version of Damien Rice, Corinne has built a loyal following all over the world.
Corinne started her career in her native Australia at the tender age of 14, singing in a rock band called the O’Donnell Brothers, she went on to sing with Jack Sonni of Dire Straits before she was 20. Corinne then went on to record with Tower of Power in Los Angeles, sang with Red Holt of the Ramsey Lewis Trio, and was even a guest artist with the Count Basie Big Band in New York.
Whilst studying (music of course!) at University, Corinne also sang lead vocals in an all girl rock band; Pash. Straight after graduating, Corinne moved to Melbourne, immediately won the PBS Jazz Award and her first recording contract, and soon started as lead singer in the popular Melbourne band Banquet. She later moved to Sydney where she joined the hugely popular all-girl rock band Skirt. Following a hit single and a sell-out tour of Australia, in 2000, Corinne decided to embark upon a solo career.
Corinne’s debut into the solo world was with her breathtaking album, Dusk. A collection of original songs inspired by her favourite time of the day, the smooth jazz album debuted to critical acclaim on the independent jazz charts and peaked at No 2. Fuelled by rave reviews from not only the Australian media but accolades from music peers all over the world, Corinne went on to perform a successful tour of Australia and Japan.
In 2000, Corinne also set up music publishing label Secret Street, focusing on world and indigenous music. Secret Street also published her live album Sunday Afternoon in 2001, which was dedicated to the many fans who frequented her residency at The Shakespeare in Sydney. This limited edition album sold out within days.
Following her previous success in Asia, in 2006 Corinne relocated to Singapore. Inspired by her new surroundings, she recorded another critically acclaimed new album MELT. Encapsulating Corinne’s warm and accessible style, MELT is a rich palette of Celtic, pop and jazz and has seen record sales throughout the world.
2006 also saw the creation and launch of Singapore Sing, a corporate team-building company which provides programs incorporating choral singing as a tool to inspire and energize staff. Corinne’s unique ability to help people discover their voice and capacity to work together in harmony through choral and vocal workshops is innovative and creates an experience that rejuvenates people, inspiring a genuine feeling of achievement.
Singapore Sing’s clients include multinational banks, large corporate companies and a host of medium and small sized companies whom all strive to improve team performance in a fun environment.
With Singapore as her base, Corinne’s performance schedule has taken her to places such as Toronto, Stonehenge (UK), Jaipur, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Bangkok, Phuket, LA, New York, Bali, Nikoi (Indonesia) and in all the major cities of her home country Australia; not forgetting regular shows in Singapore.
This year Corinne performed at the Silver Screen Awards and toured both Australia and North America. Her latest album MELT was accepted into no less than seven film festivals in North America and Corinne performed at the opening of the Hamptons Film Festival this September.
Corinne is devoted to her family and friends and loves entertaining them in the converted Singapore shophouse she calls home. In between local performances, Singapore Sing and international tours, Corinne also loves to write musicals for children, boxing and cooking a mean roast dinner!
